"The more I look, the more I see; the more I see, the more I understand. An observer of nature and people, I translate the essence of my feelings onto canvas through vibrant brushstrokes while seeking to understand the world around me. My creative inspiration comes from my travels throughout the New England seacoast and abroad and my intrigue of the people I meet along the way. I am in constant awe of nature’s beauty and enjoy traveling to different destinations to interpret and translate this beauty en plein air. My work awakens the senses, igniting joyful memories of time and place, and I invite my audience to come along and respond to these experiences.
I am a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and a life-long designer and painter. After a career as a graphic designer and art director for several Boston area advertising and design firms and educational publishers, I made the transition several years ago to painting full time. I work in oil, gouache, and watercolor mediums. I am attracted to color temperature and the affect natural light has on color which explains my preference for painting from life over photos. I believe that it’s not just about color value; but instead it’s color temperature which plays such a crucial role in the overall feel of a painting. For this reason, I consider myself a colorist first and focus on the importance of color relationships within my subject, while I push and manipulate these very relationships to their limit."
